Body Acceptance Project

mushiemallows:

As part of my diploma in school I have to do a campaign, and I’m doing mine on body acceptance. For it, I plan to make a short video to raise awareness, and I was wondering if you guys could help me?!

During the video I want to show clips of loooads of different people saying “I love my body.” It could be of your face, or of you standing up showing off your bod, anything like that. As long as it’s clear, and the audio is easy to here, I’ll be able to use it <:3

The video will be going on youtube once it’s completed so I’d need your complete consent for that.

If you want to help, record a short clip of yourself saying it (with a biiiiig smile!) and then you can either:

  • upload it to a file sharing site and send me the link
  • email it to me (my email is x_anomalous@hotmail.co.uk)

Even if you won’t do it, please reblog to spread it around?! Thankyouu!

stophatingyourbody:

This is a series of ads from the early 20th century right up to the 1970s.

You might notice what they’re advertising is, instead of the weight loss solutions we’re used to today, they’re actually advertising weight GAIN.

‘It’s hard to believe they once called me skinny!’

‘Skinny girls are NOT glamour girls!’

‘a skinny, scarecrow figure is neither fashionable nor glamourous!’

‘thousands quickly gaining beauty-bringing pounds!’

Notice how less than a hundred years ago, these ads were meant to shame thin bodies the way weight loss ads shame fat bodies today? Notice that how as time goes by, the ‘ideal’ body shape changes from era to era? Notice how in these ads as well as those seen today, they’re meant to make people feel bad about the way they look?

These ads are just as bad as the ones that run today. They’re meant to shame you and make you feel inadequate for one sole reason: so you go out and spend money on their products. It’s not about your self esteem, your health, or your happiness. It’s about selling the product. It’s about making the money.

Your body is NOT wrong. You don’t need pills, diets, or supplements to make you happy, attractive, or ‘right’. All bodies are good bodies. It doesn’t matter if you’re skinny, fat, tall, short, disabled, scarred, anything at all.

Do not let the media dictate what you think you should be. The media is fickle. It does not care about you. Don’t let yourself care about what it says.

Love,

Amber

STOP HATING YOUR BODY

(Trigger warning: this video involves body image issues, there is implied vomiting) With our time together, Elle (beingbelle) and I (Annie @annieelainey) created this video. The characters represented in this video are two high school girls dealing with body insecurities for different reasons. They are of different social statuses in school and different influences that lead to their low self-esteem. We start the video with Christina, who has dreams of becoming an actress in theater but feels her looks will hold her back. She collects magazine clippings reminding herself of what she “SHOULD” look like and is influenced by the media and bullies into thinking that she isn’t pretty enough to succeed as an actor. Then we have Claire, who is a bit more popular but secretly deals with a lot of darkness. Her parents pressure her to be thin, implying that it’s the only way for her to be attractive; her father even goes as far as to  purchase diet pills for her. She behaves impulsively when overcome with her emotions; the last time she was upset she chopped her hair off. We see these girls hit their lowest point to then find it within themselves to start the climb back up, to start the journey to self-acceptance and self-love, to stop hating their bodies.

This morning I’ve run across several “thinspiration” blogs

There are so many! One just led to another and then another.

It really baffles me that people will go to such lengths to be thin. I’ve read blogs that PROMOTE starving yourself;

  • “…don’t let anyone tell you that eating less than 800 calories a day is dangerous, they’re just jelly >_<”
  •  ”…if you eat today you WILL get FAT”
  •  ”Nothing tastes as good as thin feels”
  •  etc.

Vomiting after meals, the word “fat” is being equated with “ugly” and “thin” equates to “perfect”

I’m not saying this with any anger, any hate, just concern and care. These girls are killing themselves to become something they are not, to become what they were told is beautiful. This idea is learned, you weren’t born thinking “Thin is the only way for me to be beautiful”

These girls are CONVINCED, that only by being thin will they find love/a relationship, or the only way of being deserving of the partner they have, that it’s the only way to look cute in clothes, the only way to look good in dresses, the only way not to have a muffin top (Hi, get pants that actually FIT you, stop being ashamed of the size number, it really doesn’t matter), the only way for someone else to think they are pretty, and the only way they can be confident.

These kind of thoughts then lead to “hate” for fat. Meaning themselves and anyone else who is not thin, because they remind them of their disgust with themselves. This is specifically the part that hurts. The anger it creates, the hate, the disgust; they don’t even realize. Not just large people, but perfectly average sized people are taunted and ridiculed just for not being thin.

I wish they could see the truth, they are beautiful as is, and do you really WANT someone so shallow that would only date you after you killed yourself to be thin for them? As far as relationships are concerned, the right person, will be attracted to you as you are. Worried about being naked for sex and him running away? He won’t. Men don’t expect you to be Barbies, they’ve got insecurities too, AND they’ve got a naked girl in their room? They’ve won the lottery! Clothes? Just find beautiful clothes that flatter YOU! What YOU have! I wish you could see the truth, you don’t have to be anything you’re not to be “beautiful”, you already are!

What’s sad is, no one’s words, will convince you. This is something you’re going to have to learn on your own. The day you get tired of killing yourself at the gym, the day you remember how delicious food is, and the day you ask yourself “What’s the point? Life is short, I should just do what I want and be happy! Why have I been working so hard to change? None of it matters!”

The day you realize that the number on the scale, the size of your jeans, and the flatness of your tummy just really don’t matter at all in the big picture of life, what’s important is having fun and making this world a better place while you’re here.

I hope I don’t offend those who are on their quest to lose weight, that’s not my intention at all. I just want you to know that there are more important things in life, I want you to know that I care, I want you to know that you’re beautiful and before working on changing your outsides, you should work on your insides; on loving yourself. Please love yourself! You are worth it!
